Sir Nic Dakin MP Member of Parliament for the Scunthorpe Constituency
Like you, I was worried to read the news this morning about the future of the steel industry.
I am speaking to British Steel, the trade unions and the Government on a very regular basis. The sensitive discussions between Jingye and the Government have been accelerated since the General Election.
It is good that we have a UK government very committed to the future of the steel industry who wants to be a partner in investing in the transformation necessary to secure its future.
We also have an excellent workforce and a highly committed UK management team, as well as trade unions keen to do everything they can.
I hope that Jingye’s Chinese shareholder who owns the business will grasp the great opportunity this provides to be a world leader in steel manufacture and agree a positive way forward with the government.
