It was good to meet with Lloyd Akers from our local Fire Brigades Union branch and hear about the crucial work our firefighters do to keep us safe.

Lloyd shared with me the FBU’s concern that since 2010 over 12,000 firefighter jobs have been cut and central funding slashed by 30%.

I am glad that this Labour Government plans to deliver new national standards and is committed to repealing the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act.

Our firefighters do brave work, and I will continue to ensure their voices are heard.
